I’ve made a career of building Web and mobile products used by millions. As CEO of Rubyred Labs I manage the design and development of new web products for startups and market leaders.
Rubyred’s side projects include Valleyschwag, a joke turned real company turned joke again that delivered web schwag to startup fans around the world, and the RVIP Lounge & Karaoke Cabaret, a rolling party in a 30 foot RV coming to a tech conference near you.
In 2007 I co-founded and spun-off Get Satisfaction, a venture backed company facilitating people-powered customer service for absolutely everything.
Previously, I led the global design strategy for Yahoo Mobile, designing WAP and Java services and working with phone manufacturers to integrate Yahoo services with their devices (including the one in your pocket). At Vodafone, I designed community and communication products for Vodafone Live, introducing usable mobile data services (and the Camera Phone) to many international markets.
I live in Los Angeles and frequently visit San Francisco.
I created Yahoo’s mobile design strategy, concentrating on mobile web, SMS, and device manufacturer integration. My philosophy was to cast a wide net by building services for all devices in all countries, which led to a focus on SMS and Wap.
For the high end experience we would work directly with phone manufacturers to have devices shipped with Yahoo products, primarily Messenger and Mail. If you look at your phone you’ll probably see a Yahoo logo in there somewhere (like the weather and stock screens on the iPhone), which is a result of the work we did.
Notable things I declined to work on, or ditched as fast as I could: J2ME apps, BREW apps, Ringtones, and Y! Go (which is cool but hasn’t built an audience after several years).
Our new company will bridge the gap between Silicon Valley and Hollywood by marrying new web/mobile technology to the entertainment industry influencers who can make the technology sparkle and shine.
I co-founded Get Satisfaction, which we spun-off from Rubyred Labs. After building the team, managing the product development process, and kicking off the fundraising process I switched to an adviser role and moved to Los Angeles (for personal reasons).
Thor Muller, my original partner in Rubyred Labs, now runs Get Satisfaction.
I designed consumer mobile services before they were cool, concentrating on SMS, Mobile Web, and messaging applications. I was a lead designer on the team that rolled out the first camera phone to Europe (in the first markets outside Asia).
We were also on the forefront of SMS as a force in the American market, building market leading text messaging services for Verizon Wireless.
